Earlier this month, we announced the launch of the Ease Chair, our first-ever furniture piece created in partnership with longtime collaborators and design duo, Mr and Mrs White.
Our relationship with Mr and Mrs White began in 2015, when they were commissioned to create the joinery for our first store in Bondi. What began with a simple phone call has grown into a decade-long working friendship; built on mutual respect and a shared design philosophy that values quality over speed, and intention over excess.
With this collaboration, we set out to create a piece that truly embodies those shared values. From the earliest sketches to the final form, the Ease Chair was guided by the principles of slow design. “As designers and makers, slow design means working with integrity: choosing natural, enduring materials and crafting objects with our own hands that are made to last, both physically and aesthetically,” says Sasha White, co-founder of Mr and Mrs White. Years in the making, the chair is the product of countless conversations, prototypes and refinements.
Handcrafted in small batches in the Northern Rivers, the Ease Chair is made using only premium materials, featuring a sling made from Assembly Label cotton canvas and oak timber frames. “We chose solid oak for its timeless grain and inherent strength. It’s a material that feels grounded and honest, and it only gets better with age,” explains Sasha, “The heavyweight cotton canvas was selected for similar reasons. It’s raw, tactile and durable, yet soft and warm to the touch.” Thoughtfully designed to ship flat-packed, the chair reduces waste and transport impact while also inviting the customer to be part of the assembly process.
Visually, the Ease Chair draws inspiration from the relaxed silhouette of camp chairs. Known for their low, laidback profile, they are synonymous with relaxation and comfort, a feeling we hope to instil in our customers when they use the chair in their home. “The Ease Chair stands as a gentle reminder that not everything needs to move quickly to be valuable,” says Sasha. “Its calm, reclined silhouette invites you to slow down. It doesn’t shout for attention, rather, it offers a sense of presence and permanence.”
Designed to be more than just a piece of furniture, the Ease Chair tells a story of comfort, friendship and enduring craftsmanship. “This collaboration is about creating something lasting and meaningful—a piece that feels at home in any space, quietly supporting a slower, more intentional way of living.”
